  • Who? Overweight children 8-13 years of age.
  • When? 12 weeks of treatment for overeating

The purpose of the study is to demonstrate that a behavioral treatment involving exposure to food cues will reduce overeating in overweight children.

Transforming, Eating, Activity & Motivation Utilizing Parents (TEAM UP)

puzzle

Gut Microbiome, Adiposity, & Probiotics (G-MAP)

Probiotics

There is increasing interest in the role of the gut microbiome on health outcomes, particularly weight status and metabolic functioning. Overweight and normal weight individuals are noted to have a different make-up of the gut microbiota. Probiotics have been used to help individuals with other gastrointestinal illnesses, and may be able to help alter the gut microbiome. In this study, we are examining the effect of probiotics on changing the gut biome, fat mass, and metabolic functioning of overweight children.

  • Who? Overweight Children 7-16 years of age
  • When? 12 weeks in City Heights or La Jolla

Treatment Sessions
Children will be given daily probiotics and recommendations for dietary changes. Changes in fat mass as well as gut microbiome will be monitored.

Preventing Emotional Eating RouTeen (PEER)

emotions

The UCSD PEER research study (Preventing Emotional Eating RouTEENS) is a no-cost treatment program designed for overweight adolescents who experience emotional eating. This study is conducted at UC San Diego at the CHEAR lab by Dr. Kerri Boutelle.

The purpose of the study is to demonstrate that teaching overweight, emotional eaters effective strategies for managing negative emotions may improve their ability to benefit from behavioral weight control treatment. All families who participate will receive 16 weeks of treatment and will complete measurements before and after treatment.

  • Who? Overweight Teens 13-18 years of age
  • When? 16 weeks in La Jolla
