The Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research develops and provides novel treatments for promoting healthy eating and weight management to children, adolescents, and adults through science, innovation, and collaboration.

 

 

 

The University of California, San Diego Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research (UCSD CHEAR) is dedicated to developing state of the art interventions for obesity and overeating based on basic behavioral science, cognitive science and neuroscience. Our vision is to provide excellence in research, patient care, and education as it relates to obesity and eating-related disorders. Our research and services are designed to help individuals overcome and/or manage their weight-related issues throughout their lifetime.

The CHEAR team is comprised of Dr. Kerri Boutelle and Dr. Kay Rhee (principal investigators), research scientists, experts in nutrition and physical activity, pediatric physicians, neuroscientists, post-doctoral fellows, graduate student researchers, post-bac research assistants, and undergraduate students. We are a multidisciplinary group of professionals from diverse backgrounds committed to develop and disseminate effective treatments for obesity and weight-related disorders for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, we are committed to graduate level education and training of professionals in the medical and other health related fields in the treatment and prevention of obesity and eating disorders.

CHEAR is currently conducting and actively recruiting participants in the San Diego community for several funded clinical trials and experimental pilot studies with children, adolescents, and adults.
