UCSD is a world leader in scientific and medical research. The Department of Pediatrics at UCSD is one of the nation's premier Departments devoted to improving the understanding of disease pathogenesis in order to better prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases in infants and children. The department has been ranked in the top 10 pediatric departments in the country with regard to NIH research funding for the last 5 years. Research efforts include basic, translational, and clinical science in a wide variety of disciplines.
As a leader in research, UCSD is home to prominent research investigators who serve as both research mentors and clinical educators for our residents. An important goal in the Department is to build and foster the development of the next generation of research leaders in Pediatric Medicine.
