Outpatient Clinics

Cardiac outpatient services are provided at Rady Children's and our satellite locations.

More than 12,000 patient visits occur in these clinics each year. Infants, children, teenagers and young adults are seen for a variety of problems. The most common reasons for new referrals to one of our cardiologists are heart murmurs, chest pain and fainting. Children with both congenital and acquired heart disease are close followed in the outpatient clinics.

In addition to the general cardiology clinics, there are clinics for heart failure and transplant patients and there is a weekly clinic for patients with Kawasaki disease. Each of our cardiologists with subspecialties in particular areas, such as catheterization procedures and heart rhythm disorders/pacemakers, has weekly clinics as well.

At a typical clinic visit for first-time patients, families should expect to stay for one to two hours. This includes time for diagnostic tests, such as chest X-rays and electrocardiograms that are routine for first-time patients, as well as a nursing assessment and the appointment with the physician.
