Arno J. Mundt MD FASTRO FACRO, Professor and RMAS Chair, was the featured speaker in a Webinar hosted by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) on June 25th. The Webinar focused on Business Issues in Radiation Oncology including strategies to grow one’s clinical practice through creative solutions and innovative practice models. Dr. Mundt is a long-time ACRO member and has served as ACRO President and Chair of the Board of Chancellors. He is also a recipient of the ACRO Gold Medal and the FAME Award (Fabulous Mentor of Excellence).

Catheryn Yashar MD FACRO FASTRO FACR FABS, Professor, RMAS Assistant Vice-Chair for Clinical Affairs and Chief of the UCSD Medical Staff, has joined the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO Gynecologic Cancer Guideline Advisory Group (GAG). Guideline Advisory Groups make recommendations to the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee (CPGC) on identifying and prioritizing topics for guideline development towards the goal of ASCO offering a more comprehensive portfolio of authoritative practice guidelines.

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) has received a 5-year, $54.7 million Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Center for Advancing Translational Science, part of the National Institutes of Health. This new grant is the third such award since ACTRI opened in 2010, bringing total funding support to approximately $144 million. Multiple RMAS Research Faculty have offices and work in the ACTRI and have benefited from early career ACTRI K Awards.

RMAS Professor and Chair, Arno. J. Mundt MD FACRO FASTRO received the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) Fabulous Mentor of Excellence (FAME) Award at the Annual Meeting of ACRO held in Ft. Lauderdale. A new award in 2020, it recognizes his long term involvement in education and mentorship within the field and in the college.

Jona Hattangadi-Gluth MD, Associate Professor and Assistant Vice-Chair Faculty Climate and Development, has been awarded an R01 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Entitled “Image-Guided Cognitive-Sparing Radiosurgery for Brain Metastases: Avoidance of Eloquent White Matter and Hippocampal Regions”, this study builds on her previous work in advanced radiotherapy/radiosurgery techniques in brain tumors.

Jim Murphy MD, RMAS Associate Professor, received the 2019 Excellence in Faculty Teaching Award from the Moores Cancer Center in recognition of his long-term commitment to education and training of students and residents. This award was delivered at a Moores Cancer Faculty Town Hall on Tuesday March 19th in the Goldberg Auditorium. In addition to this teaching award, other MCC Faculty were also recognized for excellence in scientific discovery, translational research, clinical trials, and clinical care.

Senior RMAS Radiation Oncology Resident Lucas Vitzthum MD has been selected to receive a 2019 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. His proposal involves predicting the risk of opioid use in cancer patients, a very timely and important problem. He will receive his award at the Annual ASCO Meeting on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.
